What It Is
The Body Intellect Mat & Reformer Course forms the cornerstone of your Pilates education. It covers movement theory, anatomy, and practical repertoire on both the mat and reformer, forming the base for all future apparatus work.
You’ll develop a clear understanding of how the body moves, strengthen your teaching fundamentals, and build the confidence to lead classes with precision and purpose.

- Movement Principles & Anatomy – Understand how the body moves, stabilises, and aligns through the lens of Pilates.
- Mat Repertoire – Learn the full range of mat exercises, from foundational to advanced, including progressions, regressions, and anatomical focus for each movement.
- Reformer Repertoire – Study the complete repertoire on the reformer, understanding spring settings, safety, and correct execution across all movement planes.
- Exercise Analysis – Learn how to break down exercises, understand movement objectives, and identify common compensations or errors.

Course Structure & Schedule
The Body Intellect Teacher Training follows a blended learning model designed for busy professionals — combining self-paced online learning with in-studio practical intensives for a complete and flexible education experience.
Each course is divided into three key phases:
- Foundational Elements (Online Learning) – Learn movement theory, anatomy, and Pilates principles through the Body Intellect Hub’s interactive modules. Study at your own pace, supported by a library of exercise videos, recorded Q&As, and reference materials.
- In-Studio Learning (Face-to-Face Intensives) – Join hands-on modules at The Core Reformery to deepen your understanding of the repertoire, receive real-time feedback, and refine your practical skills under guided instruction.
- Integration Weeks – Apply what you’ve learned through observation hours, self-practice, and assessments to ensure you graduate ready to teach with confidence and clarity.

Certification Process
To receive your Body Intellect Mat & Reformer Instructor Certification, trainees must complete all course components and practical requirements set by Body Intellect.
Requirements include:
- Attendance at all scheduled in-studio modules.
- Completion of all online coursework and theory components.
- Required observation (55 hours), self-practice (110 hours) and teaching hours (110 hours).
- Passing of the final practical and theory assessments.
Successful completion of these requirements leads to official certification from Body Intellect, recognised internationally across the Pilates community.
What You'll Graduate With
Upon completion, you’ll be recognised as a Body Intellect Mat & Reformer Instructor, with a strong understanding of the Pilates principles and repertoire that underpin all apparatus work.

The Body Intellect Comprehensive Course offers an in-depth education across the full Pilates repertoire — from matwork to studio apparatus: the Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, Ladder Barrel and Spine Corrector.
This is Body Intellect’s most complete teacher-training pathway, designed for those who want to master every aspect of Pilates. You’ll gain a deep, three-dimensional understanding of movement and develop the ability to assess, modify, and guide clients safely and effectively across all equipment.
Guided by Body Intellect’s principles of precision, intelligence, and integrity, the Comprehensive Course equips you with the knowledge and confidence to teach Pilates at the highest professional standard.

Certification Process
To earn your Body Intellect Comprehensive Instructor Certification, trainees must complete all coursework, practical hours, and assessments as outlined by Body Intellect.

What is Body Intellect?
Body Intellect is an internationally accredited Pilates education provider founded by Theo Botha, recognised by the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) for maintaining global standards of excellence in Pilates instruction. With nearly three decades of educational experience, Body Intellect integrates classical Pilates principles with modern biomechanics and movement science to develop instructors who teach with precision, intelligence, and integrity.
Who is Theo Botha?

Theo Botha is the founder and master educator of Body Intellect, and one of the most respected figures in Pilates education worldwide. Over the past 30 years, she has mentored hundreds of instructors globally, known for her clarity, precision, and deep understanding of human movement. Theo’s teaching philosophy encourages instructors to think critically, move mindfully, and teach with confidence and compassion.
Theo’s background and experience, started under the guidance and mentorship of Rael Isacowitz, founder, and director, of BASI Pilates. As the first Principal Instructor (2004) and longest-standing member at BASI Pilates, Theo was the pioneer for many initiatives within BASI Pilates including the first chosen to teach the legendary, Mentor Program. Theo pioneered the first licensed area in South Africa and thereafter also the United Kingdom.
Theo’s belief in continued education to uphold standards has led her to organizing world class conferences, workshops, classes plus founding and chairing the South African Pilates Association (SAPA, 2010). More recently Theo together with Dr Mark Vella have developed a 100-hour certificate course, Movement Anatomy, which has set the benchmark for continued education in the Pilates industry. Will I be eligible to teach at The Core Reformery after graduation?
Graduation does not guarantee employment, but certified Body Intellect graduates may apply to audition. Those who meet The Core Reformery’s technical and teaching standards may be considered for potential roles.
How do I clock my required hours?
Trainees must complete observation, self-practice, and teaching hours as part of the certification process. Hours can be logged at The Core Reformery or other Pilates studios, following Body Intellect’s official guidelines.
