Guide for First Timers

NOT SURE WHERE TO START?

You're in the right place.

We know walking into a new studio can feel daunting — especially if Pilates is new to you.
This page is your guide. By the end, you'll know exactly what to book, what to expect, and why you'll love it here.

step 01: find your starting point

Which one sounds like you?

Everyone arrives differently. Pick the path that fits where you are right now — we'll take it from there.

I'm brand new to Pilates

You’ve never tried Pilates before, or it’s been a long time. You want to start the right way — learning the principles, understanding your body, and building real foundations.

We recommend:

Align is our beginner reformer class — small group, no experience needed. Prefer a fully personalised start? A Private Solo gives you one-on-one time to learn at your own pace.

I have an injury, scoliosis, back pain or I'm pregnant

Your body needs more care and attention right now. You deserve an instructor whose focus is entirely on you — not shared across a group.

We recommend:

A Private Session lets your instructor understand your body fully before tailoring every movement to what’s safe and effective for you. Expecting? Our private prenatal sessions are built for every stage of pregnancy.

I've done Pilates before and I'm ready to explore

You’re comfortable on the reformer and want to find the right class for where you are now — whether that’s more challenge, new apparatus, or a different kind of session.

We recommend:

Our intermediate classes each offer something different — Signature for full-body strength, Flex for tower and chair work, Sweat for cardio-driven intensity. Browse all classes to find your fit.

step 02: know what to expect

What your first session actually feels like

No surprises. We want you to walk in feeling calm and ready — so here's exactly what happens.

1. Arrive 5 minutes early

Our studios are calm and intimate — arriving just before class keeps that energy for everyone. Your instructor will be ready to greet you by name.

2. A quick check-in before you begin

Before class starts, your instructor checks in with everyone — any prior Pilates experience or injuries and medical conditions we should know about. This means nothing about you gets missed, and you can move through the session with complete confidence that your instructor already has you in mind.

3. Your instructor sets you up

You won’t be expected to know anything about the reformer. Your instructor walks you through the equipment before you begin — no fumbling, no guessing.

4. Listen, move, and let us guide you

Follow your instructor’s cues and expect hands-on adjustments throughout — it’s how we help you feel the movement in the right place. Your instructor will correct your form in real time, so come ready to listen and absorb. If something’s unclear or uncomfortable, it’s always okay to ask.

1. It starts with a conversation.

Your instructor takes time to understand your body, history, and goals before you step onto the reformer. This isn’t a formality — it shapes everything that follows.

2. Movement assessment

Your instructor observes how you move — your posture, alignment, range of motion, and where your body naturally compensates. This is how we understand what your body actually needs, not just what it asks for.

3. Your movement map

Based on what your instructor learns, they build a picture of your body — your strengths, your limitations, and the areas to focus on. This becomes the foundation for every session going forward.

4. A clear next step

You won’t leave wondering what to do. Your instructor will give you a clear recommendation — whether that’s continuing with privates, transitioning into group classes, or a mix of both.

step 03: come prepared

What to wear & bring

Here's everything you need to know before you arrive.

Grip Socks

Required for all classes. Don’t have a pair? We sell them in studio for $28.

Workout Attire

Stretchy, form-fitting t-shirt and tights or shorts works best.

Water Bottle

Optional but recommended. You’ll work up more of a sweat than you expect.

A question we get a lot:

"Am I fit enough to do Pilates?"

Yes — and that's not just something we say to be reassuring. Pilates is specifically designed to meet your body where it is. You don't need a fitness baseline to walk through our door.

Our beginner classes focus on controlled, deliberate movement — not speed or endurance. The reformer supports your body as you build strength, rather than demanding strength you don't yet have. Many of our clients came to us after injury, after pregnancy, after years away from exercise — or simply because nothing else had ever felt sustainable. If you have specific concerns, reach out before your first class. We're always happy to talk it through.

why the core reformery

What Makes Us Different

There are a lot of Pilates studios in Singapore. Here's what makes us different — and why people who find us tend to stay.

1. We know you by your name.

Your instructor remembers your name, your injuries, and how far you've come. Every session is informed by that knowledge — not starting from scratch.

2. Precise and Intentional

We move deliberately. The focus is always on doing it well — understanding why each movement matters, and feeling it in the right place.

3. Your sanctuary in the city

The moment you walk in, something shifts. Our studios are calm, considered spaces — designed to help you slow down and actually arrive in your body.

4. A community that shows up

Our members don't just come for the classes. They come for the people — the instructors who care, and the familiar faces on the reformers beside them.

FAQs

How early should I arrive before my class?

We recommend arriving about 5 minutes before your class begins. This allows you time to settle in without disrupting ongoing sessions, helping us maintain a calm and focused environment for everyone. Our instructors will be ready to greet you and address any questions as your class time approaches.

What makes The Core Reformery different from other Pilates studios?

At The Core Reformery, we prioritize a personalized experience, offering small class sizes with a maximum of 5 participants. This allows our instructors to provide individualized guidance and attention, ensuring each client feels supported and empowered throughout their Pilates journey. Our serene, intimate studio environment and commitment to client wellness set us apart.

Are there any restrictions on who can join classes?

Our classes are open to most adults, including those with specific needs, such as prenatal clients and individuals recovering from injuries. However, if you have significant medical concerns, please consult your healthcare provider and inform our instructors beforehand, so we can tailor the class to meet your needs safely.

Can I join a group class if I’m pregnant?

Unfortunately no. The group classes are not designed to safely support expecting mothers. We would recommend you attending a private session instead.

Do you offer any trial classes or promotions for new clients?

Yes! New clients can enjoy our First-Timer trial, which provides an introduction to our classes at a discounted rate. It’s a great way to experience The Core Reformery’s classes and see if Pilates aligns with your goals.
